What a surprise! - The Longest Yard Reviews

Now I am not usually a big Adam Sandler fan. He has his moments but most of the time his humor makes me flinch. However, this movie had me rolling from the first minute to the last. Up until the final showdown at the end, every line was witty and on point. There was some more obscene moments, but I can overlook that for the generally great humor of the movie. Nelly plays a surprisingly layered character for the brief time he is on screen. Chris Rock is of course good for a lot of zingers. Adam Sandler's character is much like his characters in his other movies, but not as silly or goofy in this one. As it is an MTV film, there are some cool freeze action shots and the football sequences are surprisingly realistic in the fact that there are no easy touchdowns and the team isn't automatically a winner just because they are the underdog. They do struggle a lot and that was quite original for a football movie. The movie tries too hard at being about "doing the right thing" and takes on the vibe of most sports-related movies, but if you are looking for a laugh, this one will do it for you. If you're looking for a good story with depth, I would look elsewhere.
