Touchdown - The Longest Yard Reviews

I've always thought of Adam Sandler as overrated. He's never been a great actor in my eyes, and few of his past jokes have made me laugh. 'The Longest Yard' though has certainly given him more credibility as far as I'm concerned. The downside of this film is in its plot. Paul "Wrecking" Crewe (Sandler) is a beer-loving bum. His best days are behind him, and he's only a mere shadow of the football superstar he once was. One night, Paul gets caught drunk driving (in a hot Bentley, might I add). He is sent off to Allenville Penitentiary, home to some tough criminals as well as some bumbling fools. Crewe builds his name automatically, and the Warden of the prison has him lead the camp's football team. Paul isn't given much to work with at first, but with time and effort he gains the respect of other convicts who have a knack for football. The convicts are then set to take on the guards in a game, but it seems they may not defeat their steroid-pumped opponents. I was surprised at how well this cast executed their roles. Chris Rock delivers a very good performance (although he could've used more variety in his jokes), and rap superstar Nelly gave a commendable performance in his big-screen debut. Even former NFL star Michael Irvin does a good job of bringing his gritty character to life. 'The Longest Yard' is pretty funny. I got a good deal of laughs from it, and sometimes it even had me rolling. The soundtrack also features some good songs, two of which were played during the movie (Murphy Lee's 'Stomp' and 216's 'U Should Know'). Overall, 'The Longest Yard' is a flick not to miss out on. With good ol' bone-crunching football and laughs along the way, it's bound to be one of this summer's smashes.
