Some movies shouldnt be remade and this is one - The Longest Yard Reviews
TLY was not a bad movie. However, if you want to see a good movie and you must see TLY, rent the original. Although the Sandler version has more humor, its rude and crude, poorly acted and lacking in any real emotional sense.
Crewe and Caretakers relationship "just was" and wasnt really developed so when Caretaker dies, who cares? Crewe wasnt at all a likeable character. Sandler failed to connect to the audience they Reynolds does in the original.
They tried to stay true to the first, keeping in the ending and a few key lines, but they changed so much of the tone and set-up of this version that they should have just used the title and created a whole new movie.
I also dont think they needed to curse as often as they did as it didn't add to the humor. I have no issues with cursing, but it needs to have a vaule and not be a curse just becuase the writters had nothing better to say. A lot of this movie was ok, but the sum of this movie was very bad.
Another awesome sports comedy from sandler - The Longest Yard Reviews
Adam Sandler came through again and provided yet another entertaining sports movie. I will upfront mention that I have not seen the original so I am unaware of what is similar to the original and what is not.
First off, I enjoyed seeing all of the Arena players in the movie along with a lot of other semi-big name athletes. They all played their parts well. I hate Bill Romanowski even more for being such the ***** he was in the movie... but then again, he has a lot of practice in real life. The movie even goes as deep to cross occurances from the players lifes into the movie such as Romo on steroids or spiting on players.
The story was enjoyable and you were very easily connected to the characters within the first 30 minutes. My complaint of movies lately is being unable to connect with the characters, but this movie had no problem.
Rock and Sandler provided what you would expect from them, though I thought Reynolds played a little more of a role than I would have liked to have seen. While somewhat corny at times, the laughter is delivered until the very end. The cinematography was sharp and clean. Nothing award winning, but visually pleasing.
Overall, this is one of the more humorous movies I've seen in quite some time. I did eager anticipate this movie and it fully lived up to everything I expected. Anyone who enjoys your typical physical and someone sexual humor every now and then would also enjoy this. My 22 year old girlfriend also greatly enjoyed the movie so it would be a great date movie that both the girls and guys could enjoy.

Uh... didn't they remake this movie once already? - The Longest Yard Reviews
Hey just real quick as I hate to give anything having to do with Adam Sandler any more attention than necessary. Let's just say this, me seeing this movie is because I lost a coin flip with my brother about what to go see. I wanted to see Layer Cake and he wanted to see this piece of crap. Anyway hours later we both wished I had won. Plus it took him about two minutes to realise that aside from the original we already have this movie sitting on our shelf. It's called Mean Machine. It was made by the same producers as the movie Snatch and instead of being about American Football it's about Soccer. That movie is great it's funny it's dramatic at times and it's all around a good rental. This is some of the worst trash ever made and I love Chris Rock. I just cannot deal with freaking Adam Sandler. He was funny on SNL he was great in Punch Drunk Love, but for some reason he genuinly believes that he's capable of carrying a whole flick. For all the Adam Sandler fans in the world where unfortunately there are alot of you. You'll absolutely revel in this movie. You'll laugh so hard you'll probably near the point of losing control of bodily function. If you have any taste or like the original you'll pretty must be lost for the entire flick. It's just not good, it doesn't have redemptive value anywhere it just sucks. Read the rest of my reviews I can always find something to compliment even in flicks I hate. This one is just trash.
"the longest yard" is great! - The Longest Yard Reviews
"The Longest Yard" is great! This is one of Adam Sandler's best! This is a great remake! Nice to have Burt Reynolds in the remake as he was in the original.
Just two yards away from perfect! - The Longest Yard Reviews
All this movie needs is more of Chris Rock. He is probably in this movie for at least a half hour. Towards the end of the movie is what dissapointed me about Chris Rock's character, although I won't say what happed because then it you will know what happened, but for those of you have already seen THE LONGEST YARD, you probably know what I am talking about. This movie is very funny, from beginning to end there are laughs. But as the movie goes along, more laughs come pouring out. This is probably one of the best Adam Sandler movies i've seen. Last year he was in SPANGLISH and 50 FIRST DATES, which I did enjoy both, but they both were not this funny. SPANGLISH I thought last year was more of a drama with some funny momments within the film, but overall I think this may be the funniest Adam Sandler movie since THE WATERBOY.

Not a typical sandler movie... better! - The Longest Yard Reviews
This moive way surpased my expectations. I had read the critics reviews and seen that my local newspaper only gave it one start, but still the really cool previews brought me to the theaters to see it for myself. This movie contains many of the slapdick elements of most Sandler films (such has rob snyeider yelling his classic line "you can do it") but also incorporates many other elements. For example: chris rock's racist humor which exploits stereotypes is largely effective (in other words I laughed my ass off). Fans of the original "longest yard" will not be dissappointed as the plot actually follows the original very closely. Also the alstar cast of tough guys such as (micheal irving, stone cold steve austin, goldberg, bill romanowski, and others) makes the movie very enjoyable for veiwers. In conclusion, GO SEE THIS MOVIE NOW. IT'S AWESOME!
Back off - The Longest Yard Reviews
Very funny! This is a great opportunity to relax and enjoy Adam Sandler. To all the jealous jerks who found this one a mistake: Any idiot would know to not walk into this movie expecting a saga.
Wait for the dvd - The Longest Yard Reviews
I loved the original Longest Yard from the 70's. Almost anything decent could have satisfied my expectations for this remake. Sadly, this movie is just not very good. Some of the criticism I heard about Sandler, in my opinion, is unwarranted. I thought he did a reasonably good job and definitely looked like a quarterback. But most of the dialogue and the gags were just NOT FUNNY. Forget about the money - save your time and go see Cinderella Man or something good. This movie will eventually fast-track itself to DVD. My strong advice is to wait for the DVD. Trust me, you aren't missing anything.

~a must-see in my book~ - The Longest Yard Reviews
Even if you aren't normally a fan of Sandler's goofy humor I think that you would enjoy this movie. The cast does a great job remaking the original, but also adds comedic elements that only Sandler, Chris Rock, Nelly and Sandler's buddies could pull off! If you are looking to watch the next Academy Award winning film then you might want to see something else, but if you want to have a good laugh then this is your movie!!!
If you love to laugh - The Longest Yard Reviews
It was a really good movie, makes you laugh through out the hole move.I love the fact that u can put foot ball with comedy!! and Adam Sandler does know how to pull it off.

Longest yard, great funny football movie - The Longest Yard Reviews
Very surprised critics aren't on board this film but that proves why they are called "critics." They just can't sit back and have a good time. From beginning to end this film had me laughing out loud with memorable one-liners and characters. Great music and great comedic performances by Chris Rock and Tracey Morgan. If you want to sit back, laugh and have some fun, go see tnis film.
I wanted to leave, man that sucked - The Longest Yard Reviews
I can't begin to explain how bad this movie sucked. Don't see it, don't rent it, write letter HBO and Showtime not to pick it up and ask your cable or satellite company not to broadcast it. Please don't watch it will only make you sick.
I do really feel sorry for Burt Reynolds and Eddie Albert, who played the warden in the original better known as "Oliver Wendell Douglas" from the TV series GREEN ACRES. By the way he died yesterday the day of the release at 97 years old.
That should tell you something.
The longest ... - The Longest Yard Reviews
Adam Sandler has become a hit at the box office but his movies seem to be Hit or Miss and this is definitley a miss. Adam really seems out of his element throughout this movie. He can't be too serious and he can't be too comical. He never seems comfortable in his roll. And honestly, who can really see him as a professional football player? I think this movie would have done better had it kept a plot that went along with the beginning of the movie in which Courntey Cox-Arquette plays his girlfriend who seems to try and make the relationship work even though she gets nothing from Sandler's character. (I must add that Courtney either has implants or just big boob I never noticed!)
The story is about a Football player (Sandler) who was kicked out of Professional football for throwing a game on purpose and he doesn't like his demanding girlfriend and so he steals her car and goes on a high-speed chase while drunk and gets arrested and put in prison for 3 years. The prison is know for its football team that is made up of the guards who work at the prison. The prison warden wants Sandler's character to create a team for the guards to practice against before their season starts. He creates this team and before the big game there is an event that happens and this creates a sort of black-mail situation for the warden to keep the inmates from winning the game.
The story is a fun idea but the characters don't deliver. The humor is quite dry and forced. There are harsh undertones to racial and gay issues. I would wait for rental. C

I never laughed so hard - The Longest Yard Reviews
I have to say my expectations were extremely low for this movie, which was luke warm the first time around, and canned by critics in 2005. But, I allowed my kids to drag me there and embarassed them by clapping, laughing, and making a complete fool of myself. First of all, Sandler and Rock did a great job. I even liked some of the guards, who were villified early on in the pic. Go see the movie, you will have a great time. And for the ladies, seeing all of those muscles wasn't too much of a hardship either. Nellie and some of the other guys have it going on.
Fake - The Longest Yard Reviews
It's surprising how much of the movie is flat and how predictable the gags are. Actually, the director is Peter Segal, who made Sandler's ''Anger Management" and ''50 First Dates," so maybe ''surprise" is too strong a word. But in those films, Segal got Jack Nicholson and Drew Barrymore, respectively, to enjoy themselves. Here, not even Cloris Leachman, as the warden's sexed up secretary, or the usually infallible Terry Crews, as the dealer of contraband cheeseburgers, made me laugh. Rock feels particularly gratuitous, employing his race-first stylings to mixed effect. Of Nelly's barefoot running back, he observes, ''That boy got slave feet!" His sidekick role is a lot like Wanda Sykes's in ''Monster-in-Law": a racialized accessory whose jokes are on the fritz
Adam sandler as football player? please! - The Longest Yard Reviews
THIS CRAPPY, SOFT AND SLUSHY PIECE OF JUNK IS A DISGRACE WHEN COMPARED TO THE REALLY TOUGH, FUNNY AND CLASSIC ORIGINAL.
ADAM SANDLER IS ABOUT AS BELIEVABLE AS A PRO FOOTBALL PLAYER AS BOY GEORGE WOULD BE. COURTNEY COX LOOKS ANOREXIC AND SCREECHES. CHRIS ROCK WOULD BE SOMEONE'S GIRLFRIEND IN ANY PRISON IN THE FIRST 10 SECONDS.
LOUSY DEPRESSING PIECE OF JUNK. RENT THE ORIGINAL! ITS FAR FAR FAR FAR BETTER. THIS NEW ONE IS JUST TOTAL CRAP.

Dumbed down - The Longest Yard Reviews
Adam Sandler used to be cutting edge. Some of his bits during his stand up days were absolutely disgusting. And hilarious. When he ventured off to film, we should have all seen it coming however. The homogenized PG-13 version of Sandler is in a word, "Eddie-Murphy-like". And that's not a good thing. This film pales in comparison to the original for so many reasons. Not to give too much away, but should we care when Chris Rock blows himself up? Why would we? This movie can't decide how seriously to take itself, which leads me to one conclusion: Jack and Jane Wal-mart should love it.
Great movie heading into the summer - The Longest Yard Reviews
The Longest Yard is a 3 and a half star movie. The whole cast was funny. This movie is cool, funny, and at one point sad.But if you are a football fan you will like this movie too.Adam Sadler did a great job.Along with Chris Rock,Nelly,Tracy Morgan, and etc. This is one of this good movies and heading in to the summer.
This is one funny film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - The Longest Yard Reviews
I know this is an Adam Sandler film, but so what if we have seen this material before, if by the end of the film you laughed and had a good time then thats all a film like this asks for.
Adam Sandler is a funny guy and his films are usually routine, wise crack, one liners, that still are funny if not especially memorable. i like his films, but I always know what to expect in a film he's in, which is why I like films like SPANGLISH, where we see a different side to him and show off his unique talents.
This film is in the same formula as an Adam Sandler film, with more laughs then you'd expect. I laughed alot. I enjoyed this film, and that's all I ask out of a film like this.
So should you go see THE LONGEST YARD, hmmmm let me think......................... "HELL YEAH!"

Funniest movie ever!! - The Longest Yard Reviews
I love movies with Adam Sandler and this one just put the icing on the cake. there may have been a little language but now a days anywhere you are you here it. Schools, work, and even in office buildings from doctors and nurses. I thought the movie was really funny and i think they deserved an A+ it. I can tell you right now that as soon as it comes out on DVD it will be part of my collection.
Awsome - The Longest Yard Reviews
this movie is great. its so funny (adam&chris)
great acting fun for the whole family
has you on the floor laughing
see it today im seeing it again
Racisist, predictable, and simply aweful - The Longest Yard Reviews
with racist jokes and a bad story line, i was wishing the movie would end. You find yourself "rooting" for the convicts, which is really not a good thing. with the disgusting transvestite cheerleaders, fat men showing their butt cracks, and estrogen jokes, this movie is an all time low for Adam Sandler and Chris Rock.
